Growing up I dreamed of being a fashion designer but the older I got I felt that choosing fashion as a career was a vain career so I opted for a more down-to-earth profession. I kinda fell into administrative work for non-profits and government offices. It wasn't a fancy job but it paid the bills for my growing family and to me, it was my small way to give back to the world. My desire to become a designer never faded and it's still a dream I have today. I know in due time, I can reach my goal..one-day-at-a-time, right?! However, today my ideal of being a designer is a lot different then it was when I began my journey. Today companies and independent designers are giving back in a major way.
Companies such as TOMS and Warby Parker are leaders in designing responsibly. In my own back yard there is a unique apparel company called Changing the Definition Apparel Company. A literacy program founded by Rebekah Livingston whose mission is to eliminate illiteracy in undeserved communities starting with her own community. There is also companies with the mission to help and support local businesses such as Supportland! I'm lucky because Supportland folks are my neighbors! Great people who really care about the local business owners and our economy....Portland, OR.
See, I know of a few good-doers y'all but those who know me, I always want more and went on the internet prowl and I found an organization called Shop With Meaning.
I was too excited to find this site but from all the Facebook likes I'm a bit behind! Shop With Meaning is an online community resource that connects consumers with companies like TOMS, Warby Parker and many other socially responsible
companies that support worthy social causes. Shop With Meaning's focus is on
highlighting those companies across the globe that provide consumers
with a tangible opportunity to support worthy causes through everyday
purchases.
On Shop With Meaning you can find health and beauty items, clothing, and eye-wear even foods.
Below are a several links to companies I plan to visit and "Shop With Meaning".
